Save Our Prom

The Headland, Hartlepool.
"All the memories we hold most dear of walking along the headland pier.
The promenade all lively and the children all a cheer.
When bandsmen played in their band while the kids played happily in the sand. This is our heritage, this our song, please everyone help save the prom."

Due to the ever ravaging sea, the Headland Promenade needs MAJOR help. Thanks to poor publicity, time is of the essence. Assessments have been done by the appointed company Mott MacDonald, which had left us with four unwanted options. Option 4 involved removing the stretch of promenade along from the twin ramps on the town moor upto AND INCLUDING the bandstand. This would have exposed the natural cliff face and allowed the moor to be washed away at the rate of 1m every 5yrs!! (council figures.)

Thankfully we have managed to have option 4 removed though we need to ensure that no further proposals involve the removal of ANY part of the promenade, threaten the village green or any aspect of the Hartlepool's heritage and future.

Don't forget, The Town Moor is OUR village green! Let's use it, not lose it.

We need to find other options ASAP! There has to be a way to embrace the promenade and improve it. Short term we still need to make local residents and visitors aware, as people living along the town moor are saying that they have not received any correspondence regarding the plans, or the public consultations that have already taken place (on of the first of witch was at the Borough Hall on Wed 6th July 2011 @ 1pm-6pm, only approx 50 people attended!) Consider there's about 5,000 residents on The Headland, with Hartlepool having over 90,000 in total. We need the support of everyone who cares, where ever they live.

We have no ulterior political motive. We are concerned residents.
The strength we have is that of a community, embracing modern methods to try and help save the historic heritage we are lucky enough to have, share and love.
Thanks for visiting and all YOUR support.
"I love the headland moor, it's still as beautiful today,

but if the council had its own way they would let it all wash away"

At the Ward Surgery meeting in the Borough Hall
on 30 August. There was a clear and categoric statement by both the Mayor Stuart Drummond, Iain Wright MP, and the Vice Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council Robbie Payne, that Option 4 would not be chosen.

A victory for common sense but more importantly a victory for community spirit! Thanks to everyone for their support - not forgetting the committee for their dedication and all the people who willingly tramped the streets putting out leaflets.
We will keep this website updated with further developments of the ongoing process.
